|
Just a note that any of the meets you may have to cancel at the last minute due to weather,
contact the judges directly.. I have sent notice for them to check
their emails directly, Kim Dunkley does NOT have email so must be called.
Obviously,, if I am on the meet, you contact me and I will contact the judges. Meets I am not on, I am in California,
Pennsylvania, Michigan x2 and several other states on weekends. If you contact me, I will have no way to let the judges know as
I leave for these meets early Sat.. AM and return on sunday or Sunday into Monday on red eye flights. This is so you are aware
in case of last minute changes / snow storms.
Thanks, Gail |
Reschedule 1st Sectional Meet at Woodman Athletics
|
It looks like the dates available to reschedule the sectional are dec 23, dec 30, jan 6 or jan 20. I know Woodman would
like the dec 30 date for the optional meet. Please let me know what you would like to do and we will get it set.
Thanks for your quick response

1st Sectional Meet was cancelled
|
With the forecast for Brattleboro being definite moderate ice pellets on Sunday
I have decided to cancel the first sectional
All meet fees will be held or refunded and we can discuss a decision on rescheduling this meet or not.
All judges please call Keri at Woodmans for info on the optional meet.
She may be interested in hosting it if anyone would want to come.
Sorry for the decision but I think it is best.

Storm and 1st Sectional Meet at Woodman Athletics Sun Dec 16th
|
I know we are all watching the weather. I will make a decision on sat by 4:00 pm if I can or by 5:00 am on Sunday.
I will have a message on the nlg answering machine if there is a cancellation. Woodman will also put a message on their machine
also. I am inclined to cancel if it is bad (sleet or over a foot of snow) because it is the first sectional. All meet fees will
be refunded if I cancel - it will not be rescheduled.
Let me know if you have any questions. I am doing my best.

Connie Maloney: Mat clarification
|
I have been made aware that there is some confusion in the field regarding a mat that looks like a springboard (mount trainer).
Prior to the 2005-06 season, it was allowed at only the compulsory levels. Last year (2006-07) it was added to the R & P on page 78,
top #5. b.” At Levels 7-10, a manufactured mount mat (mount trainer) may be used for mounting purposes.”
This year it is still in the R & P (same page & #), but no longer in bold font, as it is not new.
Please make sure that the Meet Directors and Meet Referees know that this is an allowed piece of equipment at both compulsory and optional JO Levels.

State Optional Clinic with Tony - update
|
Hello everyone,
Next weekend's coaches clinic is set for 4:00 - 8:00 pm
Saturday October 6th. It may get done early, but plan on 8:00. Cost for coaches and/or
judges attending Saturday will be $20.00.
There is no cost for coaches who will volunteer to work on Sunday. Please
let me know who can help out on Sunday, and if you have a preference of event(s) to coach.
As for Sunday, times are not definitely set yet, however we are looking at:
08:00 am - 11:30 pm for Level 7's, and
12:00 pm - 3:30 pm for 8's and up.
Cost will be $10.00 per gymnast. Club checks to USAG VT for all gymnasts from each gym would be appreciated.
If each gym could send me estimated numbers for the two sessions that would be great. Once
I have numbers and decided on rotations, I will get final times out.
Thanks,
Nat

Green Mountain Invite 2008 update from Jill and Gail
|
Update - Champlain college is too small for the GMI and UVM hasn't gotten back to me with any
more info on their basketball schedule - we would need to be done at 5:00pm on sat because of
a hockey game but they don't know about any practices for those dates yet. ST mike's seems the
best for us as of now so I am going to book st mikes for jan 26 & 27 and we
will go with that date. Equipment is secured for this date also.
Hope this works for everyone - I am getting calls for info already and want to get it out.
Thanks to everyone who helped with gathering info.
Jill
Green Mt. invite will be January 26th and 27th at St. Mike's, hold those days.
Optionals will be Sat. so I will need the higher rated officials for that date. Comp on Sunday.
I may need some judges to do both days, we will see.

From David Holcomb - USA Gymnastics Executive Committee
|
Dear Gym Owner,
I am writing to you today on behalf of USA Gymnastics as part of an effort to obtain accurate and useful information concerning ethnic and gender diversity in gymnastics.
All Olympic sports as well as the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) are governed by the provisions of the Amateur Sports Act as overseen by the U.S. Congress. This means that USA Gymnastics and all the other Olympic sports must comply with all Federal laws that deal with the issues of gender equity, open access, non-discrimination, and so on.
As a first step in insuring compliance with all Federal regulations, the USOC is requiring the National Governing Bodies (NGB’s) for the various Olympic sports to provide accurate information concerning minority and gender participation levels within the sport. The problem facing USA Gymnastics and the other NGB’s is that this information is not readily available.
It is obvious to all who take even a cursory look at gymnastics participation levels across the country that USA Gymnastics has a gender inclusion problem. Our problem is not the lack of opportunities available for female athletes that is typically a concern central to these types of initiatives. Instead, our challenge is that gymnastics traditionally has a lower percentage of male participants. This fact will not be difficult for USA Gymnastics to establish through the use information generated through the Athlete Registration process.
But minority participation levels are another matter. We can all readily identify ethnic athletes among current and not so current stars in the gymnastics world: Lynch, Dawes, Humphries, Chow, Bhavsar, Schwikert, and many others. But these anecdotal examples do not tell the whole story of ethnic athlete participation across the membership of USA Gymnastics.
This is where you come in and why USA Gymnastics needs your help.
We would like you to take a few moments to sample the participants in your gym on a typically busy night during the week. The more times you can do this, the more accurate the information will be. Using this information as a starting point we can then extrapolate percentages for male, female and minority participation within your entire gym.
The information reported will look something like this:
Total gym enrollment at the time of the sample: 300
How many kids were in the gym at the time of the sample? 60
Date of sample: June 11
Number of females Females 46
Number of females Males 14
Number of Caucasian 42
Number of African Americans 8
Number of Hispanics 2
Number of Asians 4
Number of Middle Easterns 0
Number of American Indians 0
Number of Unknowns 4
In addition, we would like the same information summarized for all your competitive teams that participate in USA Gymnastics sanctioned events. These would include men’s and women’s artistic, sports-acro, trampoline and tumbling, rhythmic, and general gymnastics.
Of course, your numbers and percentages will vary and may vary greatly from the example presented above. That sample was taken last Thursday night at one of the gyms at Buckeye Gymnastics. This sample included preschool students, boys and girl’s recreation gymnastics classes, and a trampoline and tumbling class. The total number of students in the gym was reduced for simplicity’s sake.
Your help in this Member Club survey will enable USA Gymnastics meet the USOC requirements, but it will also help us identify populations that might, in fact, be underrepresented within our clubs and programs. If that turns out to be the case then we will work to develop strategies to help increase those populations. If you agree that gymnastics training is of tremendous importance in the physical, mental and emotional development of children, then what better way for us to effect a positive influence on the next generation than to expand those opportunities to all the children in our communities?
USA Gymnastics is considering ethnic origin as part of the Athlete and Professional Membership registration process so we use can self-identification as a more accurate indicator of our membership composition.
Please complete the on-line reporting form as soon as possible.
You can find the form at Diversity in Gymnastics
Thank you for your continuing support of USA Gymnastics.
Sincerely,
David B. Holcomb

Senior Spirit Scholarship Fund
|
Dear Gymnastics Friends,
We are quickly approaching Region VI Congress, and the big ‘send off’ for Kathy Ostberg must be… BIG! Without her knowing,
of course, so mums the word!
We believe a fitting tribute would be one of support of the group for the individual athlete, regardless of level.
Kathy has never asked for anything personally during her 12 years of volunteer service, and would never.
The Regional Administrative Committee would like to ask for your support by making a contribution to the Kathy Ostberg,
Senior Spirit Scholarship Fund. Being this is our first year organizing such an event, we are in a bit a time
crunch, and will have to put this together quickly! We understand each club has varying abilities to contribute, but any amount
will be helpful.
The Senior Spirit Scholarship will be awarded to a High School Senior gymnast. The criteria for receiving this scholarship is:
1. Academic Excellence
2. Community Involvement
3. Athletic Achievement
The above-mentioned criteria are what best represent the important standards Kathy has consistently promoted throughout her
years of service.
Kathy herself and the Regional Administrative Committee will determine the selection process for an athlete to receive
this scholarship. Coaches may submit their recommendations to the scholarship committee. The recommendation form will be
on-line in September.
Eligibility will include and not be limited to the following criteria:
1. Athlete must be active in USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic Program (Any Level)
2. Athlete must be entering senior year of high school.
3. 2 people associated with athlete must send written recommendation(s).
The scholarship funds will be used for the athlete’s senior year training/competitive expenses. All monies will be kept
in their respective USAG State Fund and overseen by the State Chair.
Please make checks payable to:
Region VI USAG and send contributions to:
Jen Scannell: Region VI Chair

Burlington, MA 01803
Attn: Senior Spirit Scholarship Fund
If you have any further questions please feel free to contact Paul McCarthy
See you in Newton!

National "State Team" meet
|
Hi everyone
Please read the attached notice on a state team meet and email me weather you would want to participate - we would then have
to decide on how the kids were chosen - I need to send in our answer so the sooner I hear the better.
Thanks - have a great summer
Jill
Several months ago, I sent you information regarding a new competition that will be held in November. You were asked to complete
a form as an “Intent to participate” survey, which is due by July 25th. I realize that many of the states are having their
State Committee and/or open meetings this month, so I just wanted to remind you to make sure that you make a decision on this
and send back the form as soon as you know.
If you already have a decision, but have not sent back your form, please due so today so we can have a general feel for
the number of states interested in participating.
I am attaching the form again just in case you can’t locate it.
Once again, the sooner you can determine whether your state will participate and at which levels, the better.
Thanks again.
