News USA Gymnastics Vermont 2009
Mid Season Updates from Gail
Hello Judges and Coaches:
We are heading into February and the second sectional. I have a few
hints to things I have seen recently and hope to help you out.
- At the Gr. Mt. Invite there were some individuals on the floor doing
a "heel snap turn rather than the coupe" This is a .3 deduction. I wish
I could remember who but when you practice this week, please just make
sure the gymnasts are doing the correct turn. The beam gives a good
description of the heel snap turn. If you have questions, check with the
Floor judges on Sunday.
- I have seen two Level 8's this year with the hecht up on the bars.
One was in the fall and her coach was notified and corrected the routine,
one recently in a practice meet. This is so easy to miss as we see the
high school competitors doing this and forget since it was allowed last
year that it is unallowable. It potentially can cost the special
requirement for flight and if the only bar change perhaps that also since
the move would have no value.
- Alicia receives updates also from REg. 7 and passed on the reminder
that stretch jumps and beat jumps have no value in the new code. Some
may have mistakenly included a beat jump in a routine within a dance
series so watch. I think most everyone is up on this. Thanks Alicia for
the reminder.
- A questions was posed if the coach could be on the floor for Prep
Opt. I emailed Kathy Ostberg and the answer is YES, they can without
deduction.
- I just judged the Penn State, Alabama, Minnesota meet. I was asked
if I ever go to meet and have my event changed (because I only bring that
event with me for flying) I said no, but....guess what? I went from
Vault to Floor but was called in the AM so was able to quickly switch
folders and head out to the airport. On that note, the meet was filmed
and will be on the Big Ten Network I think on Sat. so if you have that
channel look for it. They did not film much of Alabama as it was a Big
Ten meet but did Penn State and Minnesota. This would be a great meet to
practice train on. Lots of the new bonus used and great routines. So,
if thinking of throwing your hat into the collegiate availability arena,
tape/tivo whatever. Good for training.
Anything new or unusual, let us know so we can keep everyone up to date and track.
Happy Judging and Coaching,
Gail

Background Check Information
|
Background Check Information
NCSI is launching an online "Applicant Status Check" tool that will allow Applicants on our full-service programs to log-in
to our secure site and see the status of their background screening. Often in the process, NCSI requires additional information from
Applicants to verify their identity. If additional information is needed and/or action is required by the Applicant, they will be
informed of this via email and the online status tool. These will be the primary methods of notification to the Applicant, so please
instruct your Applicants to check their email and the online status tool regularly, until such time that they see a COMPLETED status
in the online tool, which means a final determination was issued to you.
Effective May 15th all Applicants will need a valid and active e-mail address in order to register for background screening with
NCSI. Communications from NCSI will largely be electronic, so it is imperative that Applicants have an e-mail account and that they check
this regularly during the screening process.

Entry forms for the Level 9 Eastern Championships
Entry forms for the Level 9 Eastern and Western Championships and the JO Nationals are currently posted on the event
web sites, which can be found at www.usa-gymnastics.org under
Women: Women’s Program Events.
We are recommending that the clubs complete the entry form ahead of time and simply cross off the names of any athletes
who DO NOT qualify. This should save time, especially when coaches have to get back to warm-ups for the next session.
Clubs should also be reminded that they need to have a company check available at the Regional meets to pay for all of
their athletes who have qualified. DO NOT pay for alternates, but be sure to indicate names of any alternates on the entry form.

Sectional meet 2 at GMG on Sunday Feb 8th
Please read the info below carefully and it is very important that we work together for this very difficult schedule.
There are a lot of kids and to make sure they weren't competing until 9pm on Sunday I had to be very creative.
There is an overlap in each session so one group will be competing while the other is warming up. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT
THE ENTRY AND EXIT FROM THE GYM IS QUICK AND QUIET TO GIVE THE COMPETITORS THE BEST MEET POSSIBLE. PARENTS OF THE 2ND
AND 3RD SESSIONS SHOULD BE ASKED TO COME AT THE MARCH IN TIME TO REDUCE THE CONGESTION AND CONFUSION. COACHES NEED TO BE
READY TO TAKE CONTROL OF THE KIDS AS THEY ENTER THE BUILDING AND GET THEM ORGANIZED AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.
